Brightpaw stared at Redfang’s anguished face, eyes filling with more tears. How many more cats will die tonight? Squeezing her eyes shut, the apprentice wished for an escape; a way to wriggle away from all this insanity.
“Mothpaw, I need to talk to you. Bring Ivypaw, please.” She managed this between tears, her voice choked with sorrow. Something bad is happening and it’s not going to get any better…
Her loyal sister nodded; although a strange look passed over her eyes when Ivypaw’s name was mentioned. Was she worried for her sister? Or was that fear for herself?
In a few moments, the three sisters were together. There was a fiery look in Ivypaw’s green eyes that startled Brightpaw. She kept glancing over at Mothpaw; as if she was the reason for Sharpkit and Tawnykit’s death. Blinking, Brightpaw waited for Ivypaw to explain her furious glances. But she was quiet, her eyes showing her anger.
“Ivypaw… is there something wrong?” Concerned for her sister’s well being, the cream colored she-cat asked this with her brows raised. Ivypaw’s always been the strong one… what if this has made her crumble? What will I do when I can’t even cope with it myself? How can I help my sister?
“Nothing’s wrong,” the grey apprentice spat, her eyes narrowed with disgust. “You are just like her,” Ivypaw flashed another hateful glance at Mothpaw, who stared at her as if she had grown another head. Brightpaw was sure she was wearing the same expression. “You are always in my business! Can’t I have some privacy? Just once?!” With that, the green-eyed she-cat stomped away, her fur bristling as if she had been arguing with an EarthClan cat.
Brightpaw watched her leave, too shocked to call her back. She turned to Mothpaw, who shrugged. “I’m not really sure either… but I know something’s wrong…”
The sisters’ gazes trailed after Ivypaw, who stalked into the forest again. “We should leave her alone,” Mothpaw said with a sigh. And even though Brightpaw hated that idea, she knew it was the right thing to do. “Yeah. I guess.”
Mothpaw nodded, leaned forward to nuzzle her sister, before turning towards the crowd near the Nursery. “I don’t need to be around more death,” Brightpaw said to herself, eyes clouded with grief. She could see the two kittens’ bodies from here, their unseeing eyes sent sparks of fear into the apprentice. How many more cats will be joining StarClan? What is this disease?
Before retiring to the Apprentice Den for the night, she was sure she wouldn’t get any sleep but it was better than standing in the clearing alone, Brightpaw turned to see Redfang stomping towards the Medicine Cat Den. What--?
“YOU!” The fiery warrior yowled, his angry gaze directed at the medicine cat apprentice. “This is all YOUR fault!”
Owlpaw looked taken aback, his eyes wide and his usually kind gaze faltered under the powerful eyes of Redfang. “I know that you just lost your kits, Redfang, but…”
“YOU didn’t even try to save my kits!” The warrior accused loudly, claws unsheathing and sheathing again.
Owlpaw shook his head, speechless as the warrior leaned forward. A snarl ripped from his throat, although it was as quiet as could be. Brightpaw had to lean forward to hear what passed between the two cats and she felt fear prickle through her body as she heard.
“You better watch your back, Owlpaw. ‘Cuz you might just be the next one dead.”
So here's WaterClan Part 11. Not much to say... xD
